Dr Ayman Askari specialises in the diagnosis and management of rheumatic conditions and has a solid base in general medicine. Throughout his career, he has developed a knowledge base on biological agents, such as using anti-TNFs as modern therapies for rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis.
Dr Askari has trained across many centres across a variety of fields, such as clinical bone and joint disorders, connective tissue diseases (such as SLE, Scleroderma and Sjogren’s), muscle disorders and osteoporosis.
Rheumatology has recently become an outpatient discipline, Dr Askari believes that there is a scope for inpatient cases where collaboration with internal medicine is important.
“I’m interested in the best interest of my patients and have a holistic approach with a wide knowledge in general medicine. I treat all rheumatic conditions including rheumatoid, lupus, spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, dermatomyositis, scleroderma and osteoporosis. I am interested in chronic pain syndromes, such as fibromyalgia and fatigue. I believe in treating the patient holistically rather than the disease generically.”
The core of Doctor Askari’s experience was gained as a registrar at King’s College Hospital, London. He is currently appointed at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, and previously held appointments across London, Christchurch, Basingstoke, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Belfast, Barnsley, North Manchester, Tameside, Dumfries, Galloway and Sheffield. He has featured across many publications, a list of which can be seen here.
He is particularly skilled in listening, investigating, monitoring and recommending appropriate management, having developed these skills over years of interaction with patients and medical staff.
